Acme Chophouse

Acme Chophouse, at the base of Pac-BellSBC… AT&T Ballpark is a natural choice for baseball fans after a Giants game. That’s how we ended up here, tempted by its proximity and our desire for beef. The allure of “grass-fed” beef, something neither one of us could say we’d tried, also was a factor. It’s supposed to be “healthier for people and the planet”.

Acme was proof that grass-fed beef is for the birds—or whatever. The beef was so lean it lacked flavor, and cooking it beyond bloody made it the consistancy of shoe leather. And not high quality shoe leather either. The sides were expensive and huge, which doesn’t work if you and your companion don’t like the same things with your steak.

The ballpark atmosphere was noisy and wild, which may not be what you want when you aren’t going to a game. Heck, it may not be what you want after you’ve attended the game.

We love steak. And this experience left us craving real, flavorful beef. We agreed the only thing we could do was to search San Francisco, eating and drinking our way through the top steakhouses, in a quest to find the ultimate slab of meat: An adventure of gastric proportions.
